EIFFEL TOWER TO EMPIRE STATE: Designer Aissata Ba Embodies the Modern Woman Through the Lens of Her Senegalese Roots
by Jacinta Liu
From the brilliant contrast of vivid patterns and textures, to the bright palette of accent hues, contemporary fashion brand DJEEG’N seamlessly blends a myriad of influences, which unsurprisingly mirrors the diverse background of the designer herself.
Aissata Ba was born in France, and has spent many of her childhood and adolescent years in the beautiful city of Paris. From one fashion capital to the another, Ba later relocated to New York and lived for 9 years amidst the exciting concrete jungle of Manhattan. It was here that DJEEG’N was conceived and born, and since 2013 the brand has generated an international following, seen everywhere from the streets of LA to Dubai.
The meticulous cut of her form-fitting trousers shines as example of classic French sensibility, and the eccentric color and texture combinations oozes with the street glamour of the Big City. But importance shines on the designer’s roots; Ba’s family originates from Senegal and she takes care in utilizing traditional Senegalese dyeing techniques, sourcing out the skills of local artisans in Senegal to create beautifully unique patterns that complement her whimsical yet refined collections.
In the words of Ba herself, DJEEG’N is designed for the strong woman who “knows what she wants..and gets it” The designer emanates a perfect example of strong woman herself, staying true to her core self within a diverse background and upbringing- “Being true to yourself is the key to happiness, even if being you is being different from everyone else. Dare to be yourself because that’s you, and being you liberates yourself of failure and deception.”
Beautiful clothes designed by a bold, beautiful woman: Ba is empowering women everywhere, one stunning DJEEG’N outfit at a time.
