Stylings of Chris Diaz
by Edwin Allan Diaz
Chris Diaz is a Filipino fashion designer that is taking the Philippians fashion world by storm. His love for fashion began early on while in high school. He continued his education by studying as an interior designer. Having absolutely no fashion degree background, he pushed himself to sharpen his skills on his own while working at an interior design company. In his early career, Diaz began working at a lace company, which became his inspiration and his aesthetic. His fascination with lace, feminine frills and florals has labeled him as the “romantic” designer. His collections always concentrate on feminine beauty while being comfortable and easy to wear.
Diaz has used lace in many of his collections from his 2012 Ensembles Holiday Collection to his most recent Sam Et Suzy Collection for Fall 2016. His 17-piece Ensembles Collection displayed color-blocking, a balance of feminine silhouette, and use of romantic elements including lace which is flattering for all types of women. Highlighted in the 2016 Manila Fashion Festival was Diaz’ Sam Et Suzy Fall 2016 Collection. Described as “romantic and geeky”, Diaz features a relaxed and chic look, flaunting his signature lace and floral styles.
What we love most about Chris Diaz is his constant feminine look. His spring/summer 2016 collection “Stoked” was featured in the Manila Fashion Festival in October 2015. Diaz used inspiration from the sea and marine elements, and a touch of 90’s denim to create these playful, beachy looks.
The collection showcased sheer pullovers and jackets in which he used intricate fabrics, and denim-inspired dresses and cropped jackets with oversized sleeves and shapeless silhouettes that are loose and relaxed, giving the 90s look a somewhat modern twist. The collection also features bright and dark dresses and outfits that are perfect for spring and summer fun.
The color palette was influenced by Ernst Haeckel vintage illustrations of marine elements. He used colors like aqua, mother-of-pearl, apricot, tangerine, and turquoise, just to name a few. He also incorporated textures that were inspired by seaweed, barnacles, and other marine biology, making this collection perfect for the upcoming beach season. Of course, Diaz continued with his signature style, keeping the pieces feminine and romantic with the use of soft fabrics and florals.
Diaz’ love for soft fabric, lace, and his classic romantic style are all reasons why women continue to fall in love with his designs. His commitment to keeping his work feminine and flattering makes his Stoked collection perfect for everyday warm weather living.
